Any form of threatening, harassing, or violence / physical harm towards anyone will result in a ban
We have posted this before, but this needs to be reiterated.
We understand that many of you are emotionally driven to discuss your feelings on recent events, most notably the repeal of Net Neutrality - however inciting violence towards others is never ok. It is upsetting that we even have to post this.
Do we enjoy banning people for these types of offences? No... Many of us feel as if the system has failed and want some form of repercussion. But threats of violence and harassment are not the answer here.
And to be clear - here are some examples of what will get you banned:
I hope this PoS dies in a car fire
I want to punch him in the face til his teeth fall out
And if you are trying to be slick by using this form
I never condone violence but...
I would never say he should die but...
Im not one to wish death upon but...
Let's keep the threads civil.
If you violate this rule, you will be banned for 30 days, no exceptions

Good people of /r/technology. It is time to take a stand.
Following on from the announcement by Larry Sangler of a Social Media Strike. /r/technology is joining the strike.
On July 4 and 5 (at least one day), people with serious grievances against social media—including you?—will go on strike. You could, but obviously don’t have to, announce that you are one of the signatories of the Declaration of Digital Independence.
This means we will not use social media on those days, except to post notices that we are on strike. We’re going to make a lot of noise. Nobody will be able to ignore what’s happening. We’re going to flex our collective muscles and demand that giant, manipulative corporations give us back control over our data, privacy, and user experience.
Given the last 12 months of revelations about Facebook, Twitter, Google, Youtube, Reddit etc we show solidarity with this position and believe everyone should be aware of their Digital Rights.
To that end on the 4th of July /r/technology will be closed and private for 24 hours.
What you can do today.
Make banners, Logos or another other eyecatching images others can post to social media. A variation on the overly optimisic Social Media Day 2014 splash (how long 5 years has become) might be a good start. Feel free to share your images in this thread.
What you should do on July the 4th 2019
- Post only to social media to spread the issue. Link back to the Declaration of Digital Independence. State your solidarity witht the strike.
- Walk away from all social media. Go do something more productive instead. Americans should eat drink and be merry just don't share it on social media.
- Take the time to consider why you feel the need to rely on social media to make you life meaningful.
Please as always keep your discussion civil and within the rules. This is a temporary warning message and will be removed following the strike.
