Drones fly vaccines to remote island in first-of-its-kind delivery
A one-month old baby in the Pacific island of Vanuatu became the first person in history to be given a vaccine delivered commercially by drone on Tuesday.
The drone travelled almost 25 miles to deliver medical equipment to the remote area of Cook's Bay, which is usually only accessible by foot or locally operated boats. Thirteen children and five pregnant women were vaccinated in the area that lacks basic healthcare system.
Tech from Australian firm Swoop Aero successfully delivered the vaccines to Cook's Bay, marking the first time a government has contracted a commercial drone company to transport vaccines to remote areas. Vanuatu's government is looking to integrate drone delivery into its national immunization program and roll the technology out for wider distribution of medical supplies.

Any form of threatening, harassing, or violence / physical harm towards anyone will result in a ban
We have posted this before, but this needs to be reiterated.
We understand that many of you are emotionally driven to discuss your feelings on recent events, most notably the repeal of Net Neutrality - however inciting violence towards others is never ok. It is upsetting that we even have to post this.
Do we enjoy banning people for these types of offences? No... Many of us feel as if the system has failed and want some form of repercussion. But threats of violence and harassment are not the answer here.
And to be clear - here are some examples of what will get you banned:
I hope this PoS dies in a car fire
I want to punch him in the face til his teeth fall out
And if you are trying to be slick by using this form
I never condone violence but...
I would never say he should die but...
Im not one to wish death upon but...
Let's keep the threads civil.
If you violate this rule, you will be banned for 30 days, no exceptions

A foldable drone that can rescue survivors from collapsed buildings
Abstract
The recent advances in state estimation, perception, and navigation algorithms have significantly contributed to the ubiquitous use of quadrotors for inspection, mapping, and aerial imaging. To further increase the versatility of quadrotors, recent works investigated the use of an adaptive morphology, which consists of modifying the shape of the vehicle during flight to suit a specific task or environment. However, these works either increase the complexity of the platform or decrease its controllability. In this work, we propose a novel, simpler, yet effective morphing design for quadrotors consisting of a frame with four independently rotating arms that fold around the main frame. To guarantee stable flight at all times, we exploit an optimal control strategy that adapts on the fly to the drone morphology. We demonstrate the versatility of the proposed adaptive morphology in different tasks, such as negotiation of narrow gaps, close inspection of vertical surfaces, and object grasping and transportation. The experiments are performed on an actual, fully autonomous quadrotor relying solely on onboard visual-inertial sensors and compute. No external motion tracking systems and computers are used. This is the first work showing stable flight without requiring any symmetry of the morphology.

HOW TO: Remove yourself from background check sites
A few days ago I had a strange desire to Google myself, just to see what was out there. To my horror, one of the first things that popped up was my address, phone number and family info for anybody to see. (Whatever happened to "don't talk to strangers"?!) Call me paranoid, but it freaked me out.
So, I decided to look into how to remove myself from these websites. A Reddit post came up from 2011 that had a list of all the major sites, which was extremely helpful and I thank the OP so much for it! Unfortunately, some of the information and links were wrong or outdated, and so I just wanted to post this updated information for you guys in case you wanted to do this yourself, too. As of now, when I Google myself, almost nothing shows up - I have basically purged my real name from the internet. *Does a dance*
Most of these websites don't require any information anymore, other than the listing and an email address. I was able to remove myself and my husband quite easily. The more difficult ones are notated below as well.
Of course, please let me know if I missed one or if anything is incorrect. I hope this makes your purging a little easier!
Side note: For those who are really wanting to speed the process along, Google has a great tool to remove old links from their search engine.
EDIT: I am in the US, and these links are mostly for US citizens (as far as I know).
Intelius - https://www.intelius.com/optout
Acxiom - https://isapps.acxiom.com/optout/optout.aspx
Mylife - Tricky. Must find your listing and then email [privacy@mylife.com](mailto:privacy@mylife.com). Request your opt out. They emailed back with a bullshit excuse why they won't. However, this was inconsistent. I opted both myself and my husband out on 2 different email addresses. They removed my husband no questions asked but refused to remove me. I sent the request again, so as of now, this is pending.
UPDATE: After 3 emails and a phone call, my listing has finally been removed. The phone number is 1-888-704-1900.

I watched some YouTube videos about white poverty in Northern England. Now I'm being suggested videos about the "white genocide"...
A few weeks ago I started watching some YouTube documentaries about poverty in white working-class communities in Northern England. I found them interesting so I kept watched more. Then I started seeing some suggestions which linked this poverty to anti-establishment sentiment and the Brexit vote. Interesting. I watched more. After a while I started being suggested documentaries about the rise of the far-right across Europe. Great, I find this kind of stuff interesting so I watched some of them too.
Then something weird happened... I'm interested in documentaries but suddenly I was being recommended videos promoting far-right ideas. Some about mass immigration and how it's tearing society apart. Some about the globalist conspiracy to exploit the white working class. Some promoting hard right politicians like Le Pen and Putin, and calling their opponents globalist traitors.
This is really a big problem. I've read before about how YouTube's algorithms tend to promote increasingly extreme content over time, but I had no idea it could happen so quickly and so unexpectedly. I'm a fully grown adult with firmly established political beliefs, so I'm not so much at risk. But I can easily see how this kind of thing could lead to the radicalisation of young, impressionable viewers.
I'm not at all suggesting that this is in any way deliberate on the part of YouTube, but I'm interested to know if anyone is aware of how they're dealing with it. I guess the algorithms just promote what they think the viewer wants based on what other people have watched, which is fair, but do YouTube need to take on more responsibility in curating content - or does that go against the ethos of user-generated content?

Why Bluetooth is not mature enough to replace the headphone jack now and it's stupid to remove the headphone jack.
I'm not 100% sure if posts like this are allowed? I checked the rules and it said nothing against them.
But everybody is removing the headphone jack saying it's obsolete and wanting to replace it with Bluetooth.
here are a few reasons why Bluetooth totally can't replace the 3.5mm wired connection right now. I have an iPhone and it's so annoying to use a stupid dongle.
- Bluetooth has a really really high latency. It's barely tolerable for games. Video players play the audio in advance to comprehend for this issue. but there's so many things that can't be predicted, Games are one example or when you're using audio editing software etc. the only Bluetooth protocol with low latency is APT-X LL which is rarely supported anywhere. And from what I know Bluetooth 5 still does nothing about the latency. but when you use Bluetooth headphones with most PCs they don't do that, So you have an unsynced audio. some headphones have 120ms of latency while the very expensive and popular QC35 has 300ms of latency. the ear can tell anything above 80-100ms from what I know
- Bluetooth audio sound horrible when used as a headset. When you need to use your microphone on your headset to chat to someone and even if you're playing a game that supports voice chat, The audio sounds just so freaking horrible on every headphone, This is a limitation by the Bluetooth technology. it sounds like one of those very old radios.
The removal of the headphone jack is specially stupid for the iPad pro since it's targeted at "pros" and DJs etc..
Until they have something like what gaming headphones use we need the headphone jack. From what I know most of those headsets use the microphone and play audio at the same time without quality loss, and they have near 30ms of latency. It'd be amazing if we could standardize that to be like Bluetooth. Many of them have very small dongles!
